Fibre 4000 is what we at Orcon are calling Chorus' Hyperfibre service. Orcon's Fibre 4000 is the newest in residential Fibre speeds we offer (up to 4000 mbps up and 4000 mbps down)
Can I get Fibre 4000?
Fibre 4000 is Currently available in the Chorus network (UFF, Enable, and Northpower TBC)
You can check to see if it's available for you through your My Orcon account. If you are not a customer with us yet, head to our address checker and see if it's available for you.
Important info you need to know
- Fibre 4000 is priced at $199.95 per month. $199 setup fee and 12-month contract with $250 early termination fee applies.
- Landline services are not available with Fibre 4000.
- Installs start January 2020.
- The optical network terminal (ONT) installed by Chorus will act as your modem.
What is installed?
With Fibre 4000 you will get a new Optical Network Terminal installed (ONT), this new ONT also works as your router and 2.4/5ghz wifi device. So you don't need another modem/router to connect once this is installed, all you will need to do is connect to the ONT through an ethernet cable or over WiFi and you are good to go!
What are the specs?
- 1x 10GE (LAN 10G) - one 10GBase-T 10Gbps Ethernet port
- 4x GE (Lan 1, 2, 3, 4) - four 1000Base-T 1 Gbps Ethernet ports
(Connect directly to these for a dedicated 1000mbps connection to 1 device on each port)
- 802.11ac 4x4 gigabit Wi-Fi port
- 2x USB (USB 1, 2) - two USB 3.0 interfaces in residential gateway (RGW) mode
It really depends on what needs to be done.
If fibre 4000 has not been installed in your area:
Each area first needs to be upgraded to be able to handle the new speeds, this can take up to 20 working days to complete before we can book in a technician for your install.
If fibre 4000 is in the area already:
If the area is already set up for fibre 4000 then we just need to book in a time that suits you to have a technician around to install the new ONT for you
The ONT will replace the current ONT at your address, if you don't currently have fibre a scoping appointment will be arranged and a technician can discuss the best place for fibre to be installed with you.
The Fibre 4000 ONT is not attached to the wall like the previous ONT's as it as all in one device it cannot be mounted to the wall (partly to make sure you can get the best placement for WiFi
We don't throttle speeds which is pretty great. It will come down to how you connect and what speed your device is capable of.
4000mbps is a lot for just one device, we would recommend taking advantage of the 4 gig LAN ports on the ONT that way you can have a fast dedicated connection to things like you main TV for streaming (that way you can make sure your streaming is uninterrupted) or a Dedicated connection for your Gaming PC/Console.
