How can I avoid roaming costs?
Turn Airplane Mode on
What is Airplane Mode?
This feature enables you to switch off all the connectivity settings for your phone/device in one place, including: Wi-Fi, Mobile data and Bluetooth.
How do I turn on Airplane Mode?
This depends on the brand of phone/device you’re using. Head to your device’s website to find out if they support this service.
Connect to local Wi-Fi
Connect to local Wi-Fi where available. This way you’ll be able to connect to the internet and make calls using Wi-Fi calling over Wi-Fi.
You can use Wi-Fi Calling any time that your phone has a Wi-Fi signal. So, it’s a great option to keep in contact with home when you’re travelling overseas.
Handy hint: If you want to be sure that when you’re overseas you only use Wi-Fi Calling (and don’t connect to local mobile networks at all), you can put your phone into flight mode, then activate Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Calling only. This should ensure you don't incur additional roaming charges.)
Turn off your device
The surest way to avoid any charges (and calls from your boss)
How can I manage my mobile data on Orcon Mobile? You will not be able to exceed the limit of your allocated data so once you have used the included data in your mobile plan you will need to purchase a data add-on for the month.
An easy way to manage your data use is to enable Wi-Fi on your smartphone.
All Orcon mobile plans have a base amount of NZ roll over data. Once this data has been used for the month, you will need to purchase a data top-up add-on in order to continue using the service. For information on how to purchase a data add-on please visit the following FAQ here.
Please note that while unused data included in your base plan will roll over to the next month and be used before your new month’s data, unused data included in the top-up add-on will expire after 30 days.
To see more information on Orcon Mobile charges; please visit our website.
Can I buy more NZ and AUS calling minutes?Yes. 50 NZ and AUS calling minutes can be purchased for $7 in the My Orcon Mobile portal.
Please note, these minutes do not carry over and will expire after 30 days if unused.
I need to purchase roaming allowance, extra data, or extra calls.Add-On packs are available for Australia roaming, beyond Australia roaming, additional data or additional calling minutes. View our available addons, roaming packs and casual rates here.
Note: Around the world, our network partners who support roaming are retiring their 2G and 3G networks. From 28 October 2024, all 3G networks in Australia are due to shutdown.
Because Orcon Mobile is powered by the 2degrees network, when you roam in countries where 2G and 3G has been switched off, you will need to ensure your phone is VoLTE roaming capable.
